About Thassos

Thassos (Thasos) is one of the most beautiful islands of Greece, combining sea and mountains. The excellent beaches with crystal clear water, the remote tiny bays, the picturesque villages and the busy night life make Thassos an ideal and popular resort. Thassos is situated close the mainland, its nearest point is 10km from the mouth of the Nestos.

- Its area is 399 sq. km; almmost circular in shape, it has a lenght from N to S of c 24km and a width of c 19km. Its highest point is Mt. Hypsarion (1142m), nearly in the centre. The mountain sides are covered with forests, pines, planes, and chestnut trees.

- The population of ca. 18,000 is distributed between the capital Limenas and 11 other villages. In the coastal areas olives are cultivated. The road which encircles the island is sufficient. There is good water in the island.

Access and transportation to Thassos

• Ferryboats connect the island with Kavala (1 hr) and with Keramoti (30 min). There is daily connection by ferry boat between Kavala – Thassos, Kavala – Primos, Keramoti - Thassos. Hydrofoils connect the island with Kavala (30 min).

• The island has no airport, but is served by the International Airport of Kavala. From this Airport there are flights to and from Athens (50 min) daily. There also are flights and charters to and from important European cities, several times a week. The airport is 3 km from Keramoti, where the ferryboats assure the connection with the capital of the island (30 min). As alternative solution can be used the airport of Thessaloniki which is about 160 Km west from Kavala and has flights also during the winter saison to/from European cities.

• Daily buses via Panagia and Prinos serve all the coastal villages. The 100 kilometre long road network is in good condition. Cars and motor bikes are available for hire on the island.

Tα σπίτια

• Η επιλογή της λύσης των λιθόκτιστων κατοικιών έγινε ώστε να προσαρμοστούν καλύτερα στο περιβάλλον χρησιμοποιώντας την πέτρα που θα εξορυχτεί κατά το σκάψιμο των θεμελίων και του βόθρου. Το «βύθισμα» του κτιρίου είχε σαν σκοπό το κτίριο να βοηθηθεί ενεργειακά, να προσαρμοστεί καλύτερα στο οικόπεδο με τις έντονες κλίσης και να χρησιμοποιηθεί η τοπική πέτρα όπως γινόταν στις παραδοσιακές κατασκευές. Επίσης θα χρησιμοποιούν ξύλα σε όλα τα κουφώματα, μέσα και έξω, στις πέργκολες και στις στέγες.

• Θα χρησιμοποιηθούν παραδοσιακά υλικά και τρόποι κατασκευής. Τα υλικά βαψίματος θα είναι με βάση νερού, οικολογικά. Τα βασικά υλικά κατασκευής θα είναι πέτρα και ξύλο.

• Βιοκλιματικός σχεδιασμός κτιρίων

• Δυνατότητα επιλογής υλικών, πλακάκια, είδη υγιεινής, χρώματα, κουζίνα, κλπ.

Βιοκλιματικός σχεδιασμός κτιρίων

• θερμοχωρητικότητα του κτιρίου θερμομονωτική ικανότητα κελύφους. Χρησιμοποιείται λιθοδομή πάχους 50εκ.

• Ηλιοπροστασία. Η σκίαση στα νότια και δυτικά επιτυγχάνεται με 2 ξύλινες πέργκολες στις οποίες θα φυτευθούν κλίματα ώστε να επιτυγχάνεται σκίαση το καλοκαίρι και θα εξασφαλίζονται τον χειμώνα τα θερμικά οφέλη .

• θερμοπερατότητα των συστημάτων διπλών υαλοστασίων, τα οποία στην νότια πλευρά είναι λιγότερα από την Δυτική.

• διαμπερή αερισμό / νυχτερινό αερισμό. Τα πίσω ανοίγματα στην ΒΑ πλευρά τα οποία το ένα είναι χαμηλά και το άλλο ψηλά, πάνω από το σενάζ των ανοιγμάτων, θα χρησιμοποιούνται για τον βραδινό αερισμό ο οποίος σε συνδυασμό μα την καλή θερμοχωρητικότητα της πέτρας θα κρατάει δροσερό το κτίριο κατά του ζεστούς θερινούς μήνες.

• Συμβολή συστημάτων έμμεσου κέρδους θα χρησιμοποιηθούν για τον δροσισμό των κτιρίων.
α. αιολική καμινάδα ώστε η ταχύτητα του αέρα να δροσίζει τις επιφάνειες στο εσωτερικό του σπιτιού
β. δροσισμός με γεωθερμία τοπικά. Θα εγκατασταθούν σωλήνες πάχους 120χ. συνολικού μήκους 30μ. κατά την θεμελίωση των κτιρίων ώστε με ένα μικρό ανεμιστήρα ο δροσερός αέρας από τα θεμέλια του σπιτιού να εισάγεται στο εσωτερικό κατά τους θερινού μήνες. Το ίδιο σύστημα μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί σε συνδυασμό με μία αντλία θερμότητας και για θέρμανση.

• Die Einwohnerzahl von ca. 18.000 verteilt sich auf die Hauptstadt Limenas und 11 weitere Dorfer. In den Kustenregionen werden Olivenbaume kultiviert. Die Insel ist rundum befahrbar.

Verkehrsverbindung nach Thassos

• Fahren nach Kavala (1 Std.) und nach Keramoti (30 Min). Die Verbindung mit der Fahre ist taglich zwischen Kavala – Thassos, Kavala – Prinos, Keramoti - Thassos.

• Die Insel hat keinen Flughafen, ist aber verbunden mit dem internationalen Flughafen von Kavala. Von dort gibt es taglich Fluge von und nach Athen (50 Min). Linien- und charterfluge aus allen gro?en europaischen Stadten mehrmals wochentlich. Der Flughafen ist 3 km von Keramoti entfernt, wo der Transfer mit der Fahre nach Thassos – Limenas stattfindet (30 Min.) Alternativ kann man auch vom Flughafen Thessaloniki ganzjahrig anreisen (160 km nach Kavala).

• Mit den taglichen Busverbindungen uber Panagia und Prinos sind alle Ortschaften am Strand erreichbar. Die 100 km lange Strasse rund um die Insel ist in gutem Zustand.
